The number of pages printed with a filled ink cartridge depends on many circumstances. CROCODILE® Refill Kits are usually manufactured for cartridge refilling twice, with the maximum quantity of ink that the refilled cartridge is able to hold. Even more than the filling for the cartridge is supplied by the manufacturer, in many cases.
The actual yield rate will depend on the page contents. Documents with a high printing density, such as the text document illustrated below, may give a lower yield rate than specified by the ISO standard, while a document with a lower density, such as an organizational diagram, will have a higher printing yield rate. A print that uses one ink as the base will have a lower yield for the given ink and, conversely, a higher yield rate for inks that are not used as intensively. The yield rate obtained will depend on the printed material.
ISO 24711 test pages
Some users of Inkjet Printers print several pages at one time and then the printer remains unused for hours, sometimes even days. In this start/stop mode of printing, Inkjet Printers use a certain quantity of ink to keep the printing nozzles clean and passable. This is important for the maintenance of your printer and for ensuring the printing of the same quality as when the printer was new. However, it may result in a situation where the ink yield rate is lower during the repeated printing of a document with similar contents.
According to the testing instructions of the ISO 24711 standard, a standard set of five 8" × 11 pages is printed continuously until the ink cartridges are depleted. For many reasons, these testing conditions may not reflect the everyday reality precisely. For that reason, the yield rate of a standard testing page according to the ISO should be used as the initial one rather than an estimate of the actual yield rate that can be obtained from the printer and ink cartridge. The actual yield is, in fact, given by the contents of the printing page, print frequency, ink utilization setting in the printer and other effects as mentioned below. Five standard test pages of the ISO standard are mentioned below; they include text and graphics, black-and-white elements.
